The Horton House
A Victorian built in the 1890s that underwent a complete gut renovation. We had our work cut out for us bringing this beauty back to life, recladding the home's exterior with wood siding rather than vinyl to preserve the historic character. Inside, we worked with a structural engineer to remove walls and create an open floorplan, with cathedral ceilings on the second floor. The home is one block north of Grand Boulevard in Detroit's North End, a mile and a half from the cultural center of Midtown. Down the block is the city's largest urban farm, and across the street are the cocktail bars, coffee shops, and restaurants of New Center and the Milwaukee Junction.
